Florida inmates in 55 prisons and other facilities can soon expect provided food services from ARAMARK, the leading provider of food and other assistance to correctional facilities across the United States.
Michael Moore, Department of Corrections Secretary, announced ARAMARK’s intended award for food service management to state prisons. It is expected to save $8 million the first year, with plans to start service phasing in July and all facilities operational in September. More than 280 correctional officers and department employees will remain in prison kitchens for security, while others will move to different security positions.
“We look forward to working together in this new partnership with the State of Florida,” said Norm Miller, ARAMARK Correctional Services President.
ARAMARK serves more than 235,000 inmates over 350 institutions, with Florida’s contract adding 132 sites and 70,000 inmates. Contract negotiations will be completed in June.

Good overall effort.
Your headed in the right direction with your lede, but it starts bogging down with detail that likely is of secondary importance to most readers.
The specific name of the company, for example, could be dropped from the lede, unless the contract was being awarded to Taco Time or something like that.
Here's some additional observations and suggestions:
1) You need to note somewhere in the story, particularly when using supplied quotes, that the information came from prepared remarks, or some other phrase that tells readers you didn't physically interview these people. Usually, just one reference is sufficient in a story this size.
2) Missing completely is any indication how much taxpayers are spending on this experiment (the estimate was $58 million a year but the agency made reporters call to get that information).
See you Monday, dave w.
